Sunshine and powder snow in the 3 Valleys has been delivered!

We have now completed week 5 out  here in Meribel, home to our career break ski instructor courses as well as our performance ‘off piste master’ ski course.

 

Without wanting to go on, the snow has continued to fall out here in Meribel. Having suffered some less than perfect ski conditions due to heavy snow, we have woken up to a Saturday morning filled with bright sunshine and plenty of fresh powder snow! Oh lawdy!!

 

It is one thing to be out here living in the Alps for the winter, it is quite another to be blessed with the truly awesome snow conditions that we are experiencing out here. This season really is doing everything right!

 

Our BASI ski instructor course is now firmly focused on the level 2 award, they head out as apprentice ski instructors next week to complete their 35 hours of instructor shadowing. It is really great to hear how many of this year’s trainees are serious about going the whole way in terms of becoming a fully qualified instructors. Here at Basecamp our ethos is all about the mountain, this is reflected in the level of instructors we have on our team, it is also reflected in the resorts that we choose to run our European courses.

 

I was over in a “less well known” resort a week or so ago, and it really underpins our reasoning behind running courses in the Three Valleys –Meribel; as well as the Espace Killy – Val d’Isere. 

 

This is our 11th winter running these courses, many of which we pioneered for everyone else to try and imitate. In our view there is nothing that compares to the regions and resorts within which we operate. Fair to say, operating in a lesser resort may well be a cost effective strategy, however from a trainees’ perspective taking a course outside of a headline ski area certainly does not carry anywhere near the same number of benefits, that are so readily on offer in the world’s best resorts. Don’t get me wrong holidaying in a lesser known resort has its benefits, particularly if you are travelling with a young family, however when it comes to skiing hard for a season, there really should be no compromise or comparison.

 

Our French led performance training continues to be a real hit, personally I don’t like to miss a performance session, being guided to fresh tracks on a daily basis with expert tips on tap when you get there has been my highlight of the season so far.

 

It is great to see the vast improvement that our performance skiers have made already. Skiing off piste is a fine art, and our guys and girls are really pushing themselves to their own personal limits. Our performance training is really something I will be recommending to those that just want to take their skiing to the next level whilst seeing far more of the mountains than quite possibly anyone else out here for the season.

 

Last night we headed down to the bowling alley after another delicious dinner cooked by Bri, turns out Spencer is a bit of a pro at bowling. 

 

Once again, none of us quite understand where all the time is goes out here, a sure sign that it’s happy days out here skiing in Meribel.
