HEAD Skis for Basecampers
Basecamp/HEAD Skis Partnership for the 2013/14 season!
In past seasons we have experienced problems with people buying the wrong skis for Basecamp Ski Instructor Courses – Steve Rickets, Head Basecamp Ski Coach, Val d'Isere
Having the wrong skis does effect ones skiing performance in relation to the required criteria from BASI and CSIA. Having the correct pair of skis is vital to the success of ones season and being able to pass the Level 1 and 2 exams.
A ski instructor course focuses on piste performance. Basecampers are required to perform on piste emphasising their ability to execute short turns, long turns, variables and bumps as well as off piste in a controlled manor with the correct techinque.
“Students should arrive at the Level 1 and 2 Exams with an understanding of both the technical and teaching philisophy of BASI” – Source, BASI Website.
Whilst the Basecamp ski coaches with concetrate all their efforts on getting Basecampers to the required level, having the correct skis is extremely worthwhile with regard to the above entry criteria from BASI. CSIA is exactly the same.
Following discussions with HEAD, Basecamp have deicded to supply Basecampers with two types of Ski:
1. HEAD i.Supershape Magnums
2. HEAD i.Supershape Speeds
i.Supershape Magnum Features
– KERS Technology – Works like a turbo charger that provides additional power and acceleration by stiffening the tail of the ski in outturns. The effect: a boost, catapulting the rider into the next turn. Just like when formula 1 pilots push a button for that extra boost of speed.
– Race Structured UHM C Base – Durable over all areas of the mountain.
– Worldcup Sandwich Construction – Bringing that worldcup racing edge to your skiing
– PowerRail Pro Technology – Please refer to photo number 4 on the picture section of the article.
Basecamp have the below sizes available:
Length Shovel Waist Tails Radius
154 126 71 105 10.9 M
163 127 71 105 12.0 M

Q: What is the differenc between the Magnum and the Speeds?
A: The Speeds have a narrower sidecut (width under foot), causing them to be slightly faster and feel more racey, hence their name. They are a great ski for someone who is just under or just over 6ft with a bit more weight. They will hold your weight and allow for high performance turns in both a short and long radius.
A: The Magnums are slightly wider underfoot and therefore have a slightly more all mountainy feel to them. They boast high performance on piste and will allow the skier to perform short and long turns to their full potential. These skis are better suited to someone who is in the middle to high 5ft range.
“Having skied both skis during the 2012/13 season, I can honestly say either ski will benefit any partcipant of a Basecamp Ski Instructor Course” – Tom Allport, European Manager, Basecamp Ski and Snowboard
