I have to hold my hands up. I have been skiing too much of late and as a result the updates from out here in Meribel have suffered.
Since my last update, the Women’s World Cup of Alpine Skiing has been to Meribel. Having grown up watching Ski Sunday, I really enjoyed the experience of watching an event like this live. The speed and commitment shown by the world’s best is incredible and the atmosphere down at the finish was electric.
Late February, brought more perfect snow enabling the performance crew to conquer some couloirs! Having a focus career break crew here in Meribel has helped our BASI training find real focus, everyone on our BASI training course here in Meribel is not only skiing well, their knowledge of the mechanics and best praxtices in skiing is right up there too.
March has arrived, and with that the temperatures have lifted. Spring is most certainly in the air!
Linley made the trip out to the Alps and in true Linley style brought stellar conditions with him, a dusting of powder came down overnight followed by a day of bright blue sky making for an incredible few days for him in the mountains. He heads over to Banff next, we are all very jealous of that!
Linley and I made the journey over to see Tom, Joe and the Basecamp crew over in Val d’Isere. Everyone is having a fantastic season over in Val. Just
check out the Harlem shake!
Back here in Meribel, I have had more visitors, this time it has been family. Skiing as a family brings back so many good memories of growing up. Skiing around the 3 Valleys as a family is a an incredible way to spend time together, there really is nothing quite like it.
We have just completed week 8 of our 10 week ski courses here in Meribel. It is fair to say that everyone is now skiing at their best. Perfect timing for all those going into the BASI 2 course next week. With the way that our BASI skiers have dedicated themselves to the training throughout the entire course, we are hoping for some high pass rates here in Meribel. Everyone on the BASI course in Meribel really deserved to do well, they have really made the most of every element of the training that is offered to them out here. Great to see!
Having been so spoilt for snow at the start of the season, we are now hoping for a spring dump, last Wednesday’s snow prediction unfortunately didn’t come through, however there is supposed be more snow on the way so fingers crossed for that.
Most recent updates from life in Basecamp Chalet, the log fire has been burning brightly all season, this called for another log delivery. I headed down the mountain filled the back of the Basecamp truck with logs. Only problem was going to be getting them over the piste and up into the Basecamp chalet. Thanks to everyone is the chalet, we made light work of it, and after an hour of log lugging, jugs of beer were on the table down at Le Tav and we were toasting a job well done and a great season so far!
So with longer days and warmer temperatures, the atmosphere here in Meribel is one of focus, and fun. Focus, because of the exams ahead, and fun because of the sad reality that the end of the season is in sight. As we all agree, right now is the time to really make the most of everything that comes with living in the centre of 3 Valleys.
So another weekend is here, plenty more skiing left in the season and no time waste!
